We set up the heartbeat for any client-server session that exists over a firewall (which more often than not time out long-running sessions with little or no traffic) or trouble router. I would love it if the director->fd relationship could be re-established in the event of network failures. I.e., the director realizes that it's connection to the fd has failed, so it re-establishes it at a later time to find out the status of a backup job or retrieve messages.
