See my reply I just sent about writing your own udev rules to give
consistent names to your tape drive(s) using the SCSI Generic device
matched up with the output of:

        /lib/udev/scsi_id --whitelisted /dev/sg#

for how I solved this problem on Debian Squeeze.

For some reason, I could never get this to work consistently on my
Debian box.  Not sure why.
