Also for ubuntu make sure that none of the ip addresses in the configuration files are 127.0.0.1 or localhost. Instead use the external ip address. Debian derivatives tend to set bacula up this way by default but that prevents bacula from being used as a network backup since the only machine that can connect is the server itself..
