I apologise if my initial post was difficult to read - I wanted to include all the diagnostics/steps performed to save lots of back and forth about our setup, what commands had been tried and so on.
The strange thing is - when it worked perfectly previously, nothing has changed since (eg, package versions, hardware, connectivity, etc). Absolutely strange. Loading and unloading works perfectly through the web interface, however it WORKS perfectly with the mtx script too!! The script just SAYS it has failed - when in fact it has worked fine and loaded or unloaded the drive!! Strangely enough, the error message happens on the Linux server a long time before the drive has finished it's load or unload operation.
