There is authentication. The fd has a password in the conf file on the client side. The director contacts the fd and tells it to initiate communications with the sd with the ip address stored in bacula-sd.conf. Remember this can not be localhost or 127.0.0.1 since the fd would then try to connect to a sd that is on the same machine as the client not the director..
