Hello, Randy: GZIP levels (default is 6) do make a huge difference in CPU load. 
Also, make sure you are using 64 bits OS.

I would never suggest that. If you are struggling with excessive work load you 
may consider buying better *hardware*.

I still think putting a cap on your backup performance is not the answer to 
what you want to achieve and an optimal value for Maximum Bandwidth does not 
exist since it relies on particular case scenarios.
