        I did that and it worked Ok. I backed up and restored a full drive 
(5GB) using tar and compared the contents of the  restore with the source which 
is consistent. So as pointed out by Kern, I Think I got something wrong with 
the Tape Alert command.

I'd stop all the Bacula daemons and do some basic writing and reading 
operations directly on the tape device - e.g. with mt, mtx and dd.
