For the 3 postgres database initialization commands (after 'su -
postgres'), I have found that it is necessary to paste the commands in one
at a time, for some reason. I recommend trying that. It sounds like your
database isn't properly initialized.

I would start over and run all 3 postgres database scripts again. It will
wipe out everything already done in the database. You could see some errors
like "this database already exists" or something, which is fine.
