Subject: [monochrom] iPad

Remember the small notepads captain Janeway used on USS voyager? Thin like a piece of glass, lightweight and obviously easy to handle. Well, in 60 days these nice-to-haves will be shipped... (In the US, I have to add...)

I think I'm just wet my pants. iPad is the greatest thing apple invented so far. "Pretty amazing", as Steve Jobs puts it. Looks like an enlarged iPhone. One button on the front, big multitouch screen. Special 1 GHz processor called A4. 10 hours battery, one week standby. All sensors you know from the iPhone are on board. Big on-screen keyboard, keyboard dock available. It simply feels like you have the internet in your hand. Don't think about it - DO.

It not only kills the existing eBook market and replaces it with iBook, it also displays the books in a virtual bookshelf - the companion of iTunes. Using the open ePub format. And: iWork apps were completely renewed for iPad.

By the way: It was not the first iPad apple invented: Here is a link to the 1983 prototype of "bashful", the first tablet PC. One year before Apple MacIntosh was introduced...

iPad pricing starts with $499 for the 16 GB base model. 32 GB for $599, 64 GB for $699. Add $130 for the 3G module (micro SIM, no vendor locking). "Will people buy it in droves?" as Steve Jobs asked. Well, add one for me... This netbook simply looks... right!
