When real live human beings make decisions, there are always going to be multiple considerations. For example, when I look for a job, I wouldn't just consider whether the job was in some legalistic sense halal or haram, but also whether or not it was good for me and my needs and obligations in other respects. The same is true about getting married. In looking for a spouse I wouldn't merely worry about what religion they were and if she was a close relative but I'd think about whether we would be compatible in other ways. I think that the vivid argument Elaine made about the physical harms which sometimes result from young women giving birth etc. are certainly valid and if the marriage is clearly harmful to the woman in that way it would be haram.
