Quickeners: A Women's Gathering
Feb. 6, 7, & 8, 2009
(Starts Friday at 5 PM. Ends after lunch on Sunday)
The purpose of Quickeners is to learn and share with other women
in an uplifting spiritual environment, based on the Bahá'í Writings.
This year's focus:
"Created Rich: Savings Sense"
Featured Speaker: Winnie Merritt from North Carolina
Workshop: "Created Rich: Savings Sense"- An interactive session will
help each of us identify the spiritual values that we hope will
influence our use of money. Accompanying this more serious look at
our spending habits is a fun laboratory. We will make useful things
for the home that cost a few pennies and help save the environment
too.
Workshop: "Your Shadow is Showing"! Inexpensive shadow puppetry can
be fun to do with your children's class or grandchild or to brighten a
Feast or holiday. Adults enjoy them too as a learning aid for study
circles. In this hands-on workshop, you can make and take home your
own shadow puppets and a shadow screen.
In addition, we will have other wonderful and interactive workshops to
the related theme of "Created Rich".
Who May Attend: Women 15 years old (the age of maturity) and older who
want to learn & have fun! This weekend is not designed for children.

What to Bring:
Toiletries, towels and bedding for a single bed. Bring a favorite
snack food & beverage to share. Also, bring a prayer book and a
musical instrument, if you have one.
We will meet for Quickeners at Tickfaw State Park, Hammond, Louisiana.
The Group Camp (http://www.crt.state.la.us/parks/itickfaw.aspx)
accommodates up to 52 visitors in two spacious dormitory wings, each
wing served by private bath facilities. The dormitories flank a dining
hall and central kitchen, furnished with commercial cooking equipment.
There are very comfortable bunk beds.

Tickfaw State Park-- (27225 Patterson Road, Springfield, LA
70462-8906; 225-294-5020 or 1-888-981-2020) is located 32 miles east
of Baton Rouge. Take I-12 to the Albany/Springfield exit. Travel 2
miles south on LA 43, merge with LA 42 and continues one mile to the
center of Springfield. Turn west on LA 1037 and travel six miles to
Patterson Road (across from Woodland Baptist Church), then south 1.2
miles to the park entrance.
For an alternate route from Baton Rouge, take the Holden/Hwy. 441
exit, turning south onto Hwy. 441. Travel 2 miles and turn east onto
Hwy. 42. Travel 1.3 miles and turn south onto C.C. Hutchinson Road (at
the gas station), and go 3 miles and turn west onto Hwy. 1037/Blood
River Road. Follow 1037 for about 2 miles to Patterson Road (across
from Woodland Baptist Church), then south 1.2 miles to the park
entrance.
>From I-55, take Exit #26 and head west on Hwy 22 to Springfield. Turn
west on LA 1037 and travel six miles to Patterson Road (across from
Woodland Baptist Church), then south 1.2 miles to the park entrance.
