The Baha'i Studies Listserv Dear Jeanine, I guess it would be like that if I were in fact suggesting that Mississippi is a "bastion of freedom and liberty" for African-Americans, which I am not. And it's not just Mississippi - there have only been six African-American Senators in the entire history of the United States, three of whom happen to be from just one state. But then, I do seem to recall something the Guardian said about what America's "most challenging issue" was/is... Things have improved in some areas, but there's still a long, long way to go, and I don't think the issue of race in America is any less challenging today than it was 60 years ago.
