Also, the rabbis (e.g. Maimonides) have come up with an itemized list of 613 commandments in the Torah. The 10 commandments are only "special" because they were described as miraculously written in stone. What is kind of funny to me is that the text pretty clearly directs the commandments to the Jews specifically "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; " so they aren't really for Gentiles anyway. According to Judaism, the Universal commandments intended for everyone are the 7 commandments of Noah.
