Udo Schaefer's eassy on Baha'i law. Also, he says Baha'i laws will become actual laws. He also for some reason blames the breadown of morality on individualism. Collevtism-communitarianism are assumed without that much supporting quotes. Take for instance gay rights. He assumes that Europe is individualist, liberalism (the non-classical forms) are individiualist, gay rights supporters use individualist arguements, etc. 1. Europe isn't individualist, continetal Europe and the EU view individualism as mainly an American thing. 2. Liberlism (that's not classical liberalism) is a radically communitarian ideology now. 3. Gay rights supporters use communitarian arguments. (CNN, Headline News, MSNBC, etc. liberal news channels. I usually watch FOX, but sometimes I flip through other news channels.) Example: They always use the term LGBT community and never LGBT individuals. Hate crime legislation is communitarian, in that liberal community standards legally protect sexual minority communities, but also restrict the free speech of the other side who think it's immoral. Individualists care about free speech and liberty while communitarians care about equality. Also, they argue that children of same sex couples are harmed by the fact that are harmed by the fact that our society views their relationships as illegitimate. Idea: Here's an exercise in television viweing idea: Turn on your TV and for the next week or two, watch nothing but MSNBC. Also, no liberals actually believe people choose their sexual orientation. He creates a straw argument in the fact that noone believes in the right to choose your sexual orientation. The only people who agree with him is Conservapedia. http://www.conservapedia.com/Homosexuality Conservatism is actually an individualist philosophy. Ayn Rand (on of the most famous individualists) believed that homosexuality is immoral and disgusting. Japan (an extremeley collectivist society) is very sexually permissive. __________________________________________________ You are subscribed to Baha'i Studies as: mailto:[email protected] Unsubscribe: send a blank email to mailto:leave-542440-27401.54f46e81b66496c9909bcdc2f7987...@list.jccc.edu Subscribe: send subscribe bahai-st in the message body to [email protected] Or subscribe: http://list.jccc.edu:8080/read/all_forums/subscribe?name=bahai-st Baha'i Studies is available through the following: Mail - mailto:[email protected] Web - http://list.jccc.edu:8080/read/?forum=bahai-st News (on-campus only) - news://list.jccc.edu/bahai-st Old Public - http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] New Public - http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]
