The Baha'i Studies Listserv
We have a concept of two Covenants in the Baha'i Faith as well, but
they don't exactly work the same way as the Christian concept. Baha'is
believe in a Most Great Covenant, what Muslims call the Covenant of
Alast which is modeled on Covenant of Sinai but placed in the
pre-existence. In this Covenant, God has promised never to leave
humanity alone but to always seen guidance. For our part we must
recognize and follow that guidance, accepting God's Lordship.
We also have the concept of the Lesser Covenant whereby authority
within the Baha'i community was conveyed by Baha'u'llah, to
Abdu'l-Baha and then to Shoghi Effendi and the Universal House of
Justice. While the Most Great Covenant is seen as binding upon all,
the Lesser Covenant applies only to Baha'is.
