The Baha'i Studies Listserv Hello friends,, how delightful to have us all back together
Here is a question Did Meher Baba's family have a connection with the Bahai Faith; were any in his family Bahais; how did he look upon Baha'u'llah thanks Maryam PS I love the story of Maryam, cousin of Baha'u'llah) who helped Baha'u'llah when He came from the Siyah chal and was so very ill. he wrote her lovely Tablets at different times of His life. formerly Marylou from Tucson AZ --- On Mon, 10/31/11, Mark A. Comments would be welcome: Ruth White was one of the so-called ʿAbduʾl-Bahá Baháʾís. For many of them, the leadership of Shoghi Effendi, a Westernized young man with an Oxford degree, was unacceptable. Instead of a turban, like ʿAbduʾl-Bahá, Shoghi Effendi wore a fez (Turkish, fes). Because the ʿAbduʾl-Bahá Baháʾís were attached to appearances, some of them drifted away. White, however, went further. She rejected the Will and Testament of ʿAbduʾl-Bahá, the document which appointed Shoghi Effendi as Guardian of the Cause of God, by demanding for its handwriting to be analyzed. Well, Ruth White had it backwards. The Baháʾí Faith does not work that way. Individual believers do not get to make demands upon the Head of the Faith. White broke the Baháʾí Covenant and went on to become a disciple of the Zoroastrian gurū, Meher Baba (Persian, Mihr Bābā, lovingkindness father). Interestingly, ʿAbduʾl-Bahá Himself was not an ʿAbduʾl-Bahá Baháʾí. He Himself chose the name, ʿAbduʾl-Bahá (Servant of Bahá), in a genuine, not a false, humility. As Perfect Exemplar, He should have been Ruth White’s own example. Baháʾís are followers of Baháʾuʾlláh, not ʿAbduʾl-Bahá. http://fivekingdoms.bahaifaith.info/ __________________________________________________ You are subscribed to Baha'i Studies as: mailto:arch...@mail-archive.com Unsubscribe: send a blank email to mailto:leave-617170-27401.54f46e81b66496c9909bcdc2f7987...@list.jccc.edu Subscribe: send subscribe bahai-st in the message body to ly...@list.jccc.edu Or subscribe: http://list.jccc.edu:8080/read/all_forums/subscribe?name=bahai-st Baha'i Studies is available through the following: Mail - mailto:bahai-st@list.jccc.edu Web - http://list.jccc.edu:8080/read/?forum=bahai-st News (on-campus only) - news://list.jccc.edu/bahai-st Old Public - http://www.mail-archive.com/bahai-st@list.jccc.net New Public - http://www.mail-archive.com/bahai-st@list.jccc.edu
