In commemoration of the centenary of Abdu’l-Baha’s visit to America, the Department of History and Philosophy at Jackson State University is pleased to issue this Call for Papers for a conference examining the impact of Abdu’l-Baha’s visit on race relations in America. We welcome papers examining the Race Amity Conferences inspired by ‘Abdu’l-Baha. Papers dealing with Abdu’l-Baha’s relation with prominent African Americans such as W.E.B. Dubois would also be welcomes. Finally, we would like to have presentations on prominent African-American Baha’is such as Alaine Locke, Robert Turner, Louis Gregory, Elsie Austin, Robert Hayden, Heman Marion Sweatt, Dizzy Gillespie, and Tuskegee Airmen Myron Phillips and Dempsey Morgan. The deadline for submitting panel and paper proposals is December 18, 2012. Abstracts should be emailed to [email protected]. We urge you to participate in this important event. The length of presentations will depend upon the number of presenters.
