In terms of scientific evidence, the evidence I have seen, and I can dig it up if you 
like, supports the efficacy of the community reinforcement approach, which was 
developed by marriage and family counselors. 

AA has an atrocious success rate, and a couple of studies have actually found that 
those who do *not* attend AA meetings have a better success rate in abstaining from 
alcohol than those who do. Also, the AA view that an alcoholic must never again drink 
or risk relapse, however admirable that might be from a Baha'i perspective, has not 
been supported.
