There are some traffic rules which are just plain stupid. Like the
speed limit. In Pune there is a section on NDA Road. When I first
started to travel on it in 1998, the speed limit board said 20km/hr.
That section of road is wide enough for 4 trucks to go side by side.
During that time, there was hardly any traffic.

Now, even a guy on cycle (if he has the power) can go faster than
20km/hr without any worries. Now this is "plain stupid rule". I never
followed that rule.

On expressway the speed limit is 80km/hr. Has the guys who decided
that rule ever tried to drive a car at 80km/hr over there, if they
know how to drive one? I have done once, the Indica was under running
in and was not exceeding 80km/hr. When you can see miles long straight
road in front as well as in your RVM, unless you are on a bullock cart
or don't know how to drive or in a new vehicle. No ways you will not
exceed 80, I mean you won't even realise you are doing over 80 unless
you are in a Premier Padmani/Ambassador/some open vehicle/something
that can't even touch 80km/hr. Now thats plain "stupid".

Now if we talk about city speed limit of 40km/hr. Sometimes 40km/hr
can be "fast" and sometimes its "slow". Like on a traffic filled road
with slowely moving traffic (~20km/hr), 40 is "fast" and doing that
speed will be stupidity. On the other hand, on a miles long straight
section of city road, early morning with good visibility, 40km/hr will
be too slow and thats again stupidity. So instead of looking at the
speedo (for speed) while riding, I prefer looking on road and ride in
a safer manner. To hell with speed limit and their makers.

Jumping a traffic light is something totally different and no one can
judge properly when to jump a traffic light "safely" during traffic
time. Yes, if its late night/early morning with very low traffic flow,
one can judge and make a call.

PS: I know when "some" people will read this, I'll start getting
frantic calls questioning me how can I say I'm a responsible rider.
Well, I have just one answer. How many pillions will refuse to sit
behind me vs you? :-)
