Hi Guys,

Yesterday, while returning from a ride, I suddenly felt the bike stall
as though (cruising at 45-50kmph) it went dry. I knew the bike was
coming onto reserve, but it felt a bit odd since I turned the cock to
reserve and it wasn't responding. Usually it takes a couple of
seconds to respond to the cock shifted to reserve. It then eventually
came to a dead stop. I started it again and let it idle for some
time, but as soon as I revved it, it would 'blip' 'blip' and die.
Tried it several times and all the while it would safely idle and as
soon as I would rev it above ~4000rpm, it would 'blip', releasing the
accelerator would revive it again. I somehow managed to put it in
gear and pushed it to gain enough momentum to maintain 15-20kmph
without letting the rpm go above ~3500rpm and managed to reach home.

I've had this problem about 3 years ago. At that time I eventually
realised that the tank had about 300ml of water sitting at the bottom
and that had run into the carburettor. So, I suspected the same
problem this time as well. On draining the tank, I found very little
water, less than 30ml, so it seems that might not be the problem this
time around. I let the bike stand over night with the fuel line open,
hoping this would dry out any water from the carb. On trying this
morning, it would start and idle with great difficulty for about 5-10
seconds and then die. I tried kicking the bike several times with the
fuel cock off, hoping to clear the carb, but that didn't help either.

What could be the problem? I suspect the bike more or less idles
safely because the idle jet is clear and then as soon as I raise it a
bit, dies because the main jet may be clogged, could this be the case?
I called the local service centre (Noida-Suman Auto) and they donot
pick up bikes and it seems impossible to push it all the way. Is this
something I might be able to fix myself? Can anyone be able to
diagnose the problem? I have opened 2s carburettors before, but to be
honest, probably nothing as complicated as the Pulsar's. Anyone aware
of a good mechanic who would come over to fix or take it away in
Noida?

Thanks,

Adrian
