For the shocks part I guess the shocks are set to soft setting so thats why you hear the thud on every small pothole. Ask the mechanic to set it to one up hard setting or set it and try riding and check whether it is fine.
I guess you can even do it on own but better do it from mechanic. About the handle I am not sure.
