Side Event in Bali: Decentralized Energy, Climate Change and Energy

December 3rd 2007,

The World Alliance for Decentralized Energy
(WADE), is pleased to announce its upcoming
side event to be held in conjunction with the
international
climate change negotiations
(http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001_3SyuZtQqEC-PindViUJr0ZvB_XKbcQYVF6b96PyOzA8l4bBgf5fLUpCs55oHggO1hVJ7LUqf4ifpGlU0Hk7PelaTNqQ57rT4LDFvjPFZSOc0YZKsJl0u40qySREwY2ArDNFIO9TGzgLJSEDe9pA0qxvzE-MjTfJ)
in
Bali, Indonesia.

The event, entitled "Decentralized energy,
climate change and energy security" will be
held Saturday, 08 December 2007, 10:00 -
12:00, in room 'Biofuel, of the Grand Hyatt
Conference Center'.

WADE sees 'decentralized energy (DE)' as both
a climate change mitigation strategy and a
climate change adaptation strategy. With this
panel we want
to move beyond simply stating that global
electricity use patterns are contributing to
climate change and insecurity. The aim is to
catalyze discussion on realistic strategies
for reducing the negative side effects
resultant from current global electricity
generation and consumption practices.

Decentralized energy can simultaneously improve
energy security, reduce conflict, reduce
carbon pollution and help communities
around the world adapt to vulnerabilities
arising from a changing climate and related
conflicts. Decentralized energy is also one
option that offers realistic foundation for a
consensus in post 2012 negotiations.

PANEL:

Overview and Context- Mr. Jeff Bell, Program
Director, WADE (Canada)

Private sector Perspective - Mr. K.K. Ralhan,
President Director Kaltimex ltd.
(Indonesia)

Government Perspective - Mr. Stefan Schurig,
Climate/Energy Director,
World Future Council (Germany)

IPCC Perspective - Mr. Bert Metz, Co-chair,
IPCC Working Group III
(the Netherlands)

decentralized energy?
We would like to invite
you to come and join the discussion.
