Pagi tadi saya mengirimkan artikel ke milis kita ini
tentang diabetes pada ibu hamil, disana disebtukan
hubungan diabetes dengan pre eclampsia. Dibawah ini
saya sertakan artikel tentang pre eclampsia sebagai

Preeclampsia only occurs in about nine percent of all
pregnancies, often showing
up in the third trimester. Very
young and older mothers, as well as first-time
mothers, are usually the ones who
get it. Preeclampsia is characterized by high
blood pressure,
swelling--particularly of the hands and face--and
protein in the
urine. So, if your face swells up
or you experience a sudden, rapid weight gain, (a
sign that you're retaining water),
tell your doctor or midwife.
Swelling by itself isn't proof you
have preeclampsia, but if your blood pressure
rises to dangerous levels and there
are high levels of protein in your urine, you
could have the illness. That's why
your healthcare provider checks your blood
pressure, weight, and asks for a
urine sample at every prenatal visit--these
routine preocedures help alert them
to any changes in your condition. A woman
with preeclampsia may also suffer
from pain under the ribs on the right side,
sudden, severe headaches, and spots
before the eyes.
With a mild case of preeclampsia,
your healthcare provider will likely recommend
bedrest and plenty of fluids, and
you'll be monitored closely to make sure you
and your baby are doing well.
Bedrest, particularly if you lie on your left side and
not on your back, allows your
kidneys to function most efficiently. In severe
cases, doctors induce labor to save
the life of the mother when delivering the
baby becomes the only real cure for
severe preeclampsia. If you attend all
scheduled prenatal checkups it's
easy for your practitioner to catch the disease
early; when caught early the
disease can be successfully treated to prevent harm
to either mother or baby.
Besides good prenatal care, which
would catch detect preeclampsia early on,
there has been no real advance in
preventing the disease. Some studies suggest
that women who have a high risk of
developing the disease--including those who have
multiple gestations
(twins, triplets), or mothers with
hypertension or a previous history of
preeclampsia--take a baby aspirin a
day. Before you do so, however, you
must first check with your healthcare provider. But if
you've already
been diagnosed with preeclampsia,
baby aspirin is of no value.
