Mbak Wening,
ini saya kutipkan dari CD ROM BMA.
Saya sendiri pernah kena sewaktu dewasa, juga diiringi batuk, bahkan mencret
sedikit.
Semoga anaknya cepat sembuh.

Salam,
Rien.

Measles is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus that
spreads throughout the body but affects chiefly the skin and
respiratory tract. The incubation period of the disease is 10
to 14 days.

What are the symptoms?
The following account of symptoms describes a typical case of
measles.
During the first day or two, the child becomes miserable, with
a raised temperature, runny nose, red, watering eyes, dry cough
and perhaps diarrhoea. By the third day, the temperature falls
and tiny white spots, like grains of salt, appear inside the
mouth. On the fourth and fifth days, the temperature rises again
and the characteristic measles skin rash appears. The rash starts
on the forehead and behind the ears as dull-red, slightly raised
spots about 2 - 3mm, (up to inch) across. The spots gradually
spread to the rest of the head and body (but not usually the
limbs). As they spread, the spots get bigger and join together.
By the sixth day, the rash is fading, and after a week all symptoms
have gone.
Some children with measles complain of headaches and are lethargic.
In rare cases, sufferers say that light hurts their eyes. Usually,
this is no cause for concern but it is best to mention it to
your doctor.
Measles has become much less common since the introduction of
the triple measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine in the late
1980s.

What should be done?
You must notify your doctor if you suspect a case of measles;
all cases are recorded by the health authorities. At the first
sign of any complications - such as ear problems, or the symptoms
of encephalitis, which is a serious complication - consult you
doctor without delay.

What is the treatment?
Self-help There are several ways in which you can make the child
more comfortable and guard against possible risks - see Caring
for a feverish child. Since measles is so contagious, it is not
practicable to try to prevent other members of the family who
have not already had the disease from developing it.
Professional help As measles is a viral infection, your doctor
is unlikely to prescribe antibiotic drugs, which work against
bacteria but are ineffective against viruses. If, however, there
are complications, such as ear problems or pneumonia (see Pneumonia
in children), antibiotics will be used.
In most children who contract measles, the disease disappears
within 10 days and the only after-effect is lifelong immunity
to another attack.
