Dear Friends, A growing number of volunteers are assisting three children's library (and increasing) run by self-help community in Jakarta and Bandung (and expanding). These libraries provide books to children who otherwise do not have access to quality reading materials. Run fully by volunteers who are committed to help children read more and love books, these libraries are in need of any kind of support that are available. We have set up a network of volunteers who are willing to contribute their time to support these libraries. There are numerous ways that a volunteer can help: one is a journalist who's writing about the libraries, the other a web master who's contributing time to set up information on the web about the libraries and the network we're setting, one in the States is doing fundraising, and others volunteer their time to take care of a BOOK DROP BOX. I am writing to you to ask if you would be willing to become one of our volunteers to manage ONE BOOK DROP BOX in the building that you are working. Rencana konkrit Book Drop Box: (quoted from discussion at 1001buku@) Book drop box adalah kotak yang diletakkan di berbagai tempat strategis untuk memudahkan orang-orang yang berminat membantu menambah koleksi perpustakaan anak/perpustakaan komunitas dengan menyumbangkan buku baru/buku bekas. Rencana awal adalah meletakkan book drop box di supermarket/toko dll. Tapi kemarin disadari, bahwa gedung perkantoran pun bisa dimanfaatkan untuk jadi tempat book drop box. Kalau kita punya satu orang per gedung tinggi yang jadi sukarelawan koordinator book drop box, maka bayangkan kesempatan yang terbuka untuk menampung buku-buku sumbangan. Ini yang jadi target kerja kita untuk satu bulan ke depan. Tahapan 1 BDB 1. Rekrut relawan di Jakarta (3-5) dan Bandung (3-5) untuk menjadi penanggung jawab masing-masing 1 book drop box. Kawan-kawan di 1001buku@ yang bisa menjadi relawan untuk 1 drop box di gedung perkantorannya, sila mengajukan diri. Insya Allah saya akan lakukan untuk Ratu Plaza Bldg. (walaupun tingkat occupancy rate nya agak rendah, tapi lumayan mudah untuk memulai). (semua anggota 1001buku@) 2. Beli beberapa plastik boks yang beroda (@ Rp. 45-60 ribu) untuk start awal. (siapa yang mau nyumbang? saya akan beli 1 untuk Ratu Plaza). 3. Bereskan logo untuk dipasang di masing-masing book drop box, distribusikan ke relawan penanggungjawab book drop box (Anggoro atau MasWisnu) 4. Bikin flyer kecil ukuran 1/4 letter size paper, untuk didistribusikan ke penghuni gedung bertingkat --> sebagai pengumuman inisiatif book drop box(Upik) 5. Informasi tentang 1001buku di web (Mas Suryadi), Visi & Misi dan informasi untuk diletakkan di web: (Upik/Santi) Jadi, tahap 1 bulan ke depan adalah memantapkan kerja Book Drop Box. Rencana untuk bikin pertemuan regular kita tunda dulu hingga BDB ini agak lancar jalannya. Harapannya, setelah 1 bulan, kita evaluasi dan perbaiki semuanya. Setelah itu, ekspansi ke publik yang lebih luas. Mari kita usahakan tahapan 1 BDB ini selesai dalam 1 minggu. Pekan depan sudah mulai bergerilya untuk cari sumbangan buku. Salam Upik >
