trying to get Gentoo to upgrade Balsa version

Gentoo Linux currently has Balsa 2.4.8 as the only available version.   
I don't know what the build issues were with 2.4.9, but 2.4.10 and  
2.4.11 fail to build with g-mime 2.6.  The gentoo bug to bump the  
version of balsa is https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=388169, and  
refers to the compile problem, logged as  
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=664560.  I have not tried  
building this myself yet.  Gentoo has both 2.4 and 2.6 of gmime  
available as stable, but I suspect they will not accept a stable balsa  
requiring gmime 2.4 but not 2.6.  Is there a known issue with gmime, or  
has it simply not been brought up yet?
