I have been very busy the last couple of weeks familiarising myself with the
office of Brigadier General (a role I had not hoped to achieve for some time
and the surprise of which left me with some loose ends in my previous post).
I have finally caught up with the mountain of Missives from Captain le Vair,
yourself, your Lieutenant Colonel, your Colonel and my Lieutenant General
plus several others whom I fail to see what concern it is of theirs.
In answer to your request. I will not be appointing yourself or Major de Custaard
to the role of Brigade Major until I am satisfied that you exhibit the qualities which
are required of this position.

I would like to apply for the Brigade Major position. I once before
applied to you to become your aid but you pointed out that I was too
highly qualified. But for the Brigade Major position I think I would be
perfect.
Please do not let all the recent disturbing letters affect your
decision. You know of how my performance was when you commanded the
Dragoon Guards. I have only gotten better.
