M'lud,
I see that the position of Commissioner of Public
Safety is currently vacant, and would like to put myself forward for the
job.
I believe that I am uniquely qualified for the
position for a number of reasons:
1) Clear-mindedness
Having spent what appears to be an aeon at the
front, I am firmly convinced that the greatest threats to public safety are
things such as marauding invaders, armed rebels and treasonous
conspirators.
I would not waste my time chasing people who had
neglected their paperwork, spoken roughly of their colleagues, or looked
lustfully upon a woman. As a matter of fact, I would ensure that such things
were positively encourages.
2) Experience
Not only have I had extensive experience in
fighting the enemies of France, I have also seen the insides of her prisons. I
am therefore able to both understand the criminal mind and understand the
criminal experience. I am also best positioned to know how to maximise the
revenue to the state of selling life's little luxuries to
prisoners.
3) Integrity
As everyone in Paris knows, I have no
self-constraint when it comes to my many appetites. Some might regard this as a
disadvantage. However, I view it as a way of advertising my integrity to Paris.
Were I to accept a bribe I would immediately spend it in a frenzy of debauchery,
instantly alerting observers to foul play.
4) Providence
Last month God saw fit to reward me with the
opportunity to make a dazzling display of arms, and the King saw fit to reward
me by elevating me to the rank of Chevalier. I can only see this as a sign of
forgiveness for previous alleged transgressions, and an indication of future
favour towards the Grosscanard estate.
