I write to you concerning the opening of the position of Guard Brigade
Major. A few months ago I already expressed my interest for this position,
but I did not want to press the issue while the position was still
occupied.
I have served the Crown Prince faithfully for a year and served as aid
under several Generals.
I have served now for several years as Major in the Cardinals Guard and I
had many discussions and field expeditions together with my late collague
Major Rouge who died in the function of Guard Brigade Major. I hope I will
show as much dedication to the position as he did.
May I also express my gratitude again for your gratious help you gave me
when I entered Paris so long ago. Without your help I would not have been
where I am now nor would I have met my wife-to-be Alison. If there is any
way I can repay the debt you need but mention. I sincerely hope you will
accept the personal invitation to my wedding (and stagparty).
