Mon Cher Antoine, I have just had word from Army HQ that my application for the post of Adjutant-General has finally been accepted and ratified. The problem, it seems, was that the regulations have been so well-thumbed over the years that 'Lt' in front of the 'General' in the eligibility section had become almost totally rubbed away. Consequently, the half-blind clerk in that particular section mistakenly believed that I had to be a full General before being eligible for the post! Given the urgency of your request, I will reappoint you to your command this month.
