Good to see you at Michelle's wedding, though why she had to get married in
the middle of Winter is beyond me - most of my extremities nearly froze off
during the journey from the south! Still, one down and one to go eh?
My only regret is that your difficulties over the Adjutant-General's
appointment meant that we couldn't spend that much time together. Still, I
didn't exactly waste my time while I was in Paris. Since you didn't raise
any objections I called on Sue to pay my respects and she insisted that, as
her current beau was away at the front, she play the dutiful daughter-in-law
and offer me bed and board for the length of my stay. She was extremely
accommodating, in fact, and the depth of her affection far exceeded that
which an ex-father-in-law had any right to expect. I can't see this Custard
chap lasting long...
Sue is still a very handsome woman, though paint and artifice seem to be
playing more of a part now that the first bloom of her youth is fading. I
tried to persuade her to come back with me and winter in Provence, but she
didn't want to make such a strong commitment. The impresssion I got was that
she still regrets the annulment, but I don't suppose there is any chance of
that particular wrong being righted now...?
Anyway, I'm back at the Chateau and currently putting right the slight frost
damage which our enlarged estates received. Any word yet on the possibity of
us getting
Petite Masure back too, so as to reconstitute the de Mylcandonia estate in
its entirety?

P.S. I found myself with a rather embarassing ailment upon my return. When
my physician told me that it was thought to be caused by "boxing one's
Jesuit" after tending one's mares and neglecting to wash one's hands
betweentimes I came within an inch of giving him a good thrashing! I've not
boxed _my_ Jesuit since I was 13 (what are maids, country girls and
burghers' wives for, I ask you?) and pay a vet to tend _my_ mares! Still, it
seems that being named after a yellow slimy substance might be uncannily
appropriate for certain a gentleman of our aquaintance.
P.P.S. Is it true that Senior has appointed de Custaad as a Minister without
Portfolio? I wonder what they could possibly have in common?
