The Commissioner surveyed all the information he had collected so far.  "Seems pretty clear that both deaths were the result of duels between gentlemen.  Apparently neither was over one of the lovely ladies of Paris either, since not one of the ladies I interviewed knew anything about the deaths.  So that really only leaves me with the options of a duel of cause or an illegal regimental duel.  And since I don't recall any duels of cause, I can only reach the conclusion that it was a regimental matter.  Such a sad state of affairs that the animosity should reach these levels."
Rising from his desk, Alain paces back and forth across the room repeatedly, hands clasped behind his back.  "And then there's the matter of the identities of the two victims.  Despite the uncooperativeness of most of the Colonels, they have finally been identified as Moosch Y Zer of the Royal Marines and Argon Fely'la of the 69th.  Although I hear that one of the men was actually moving to a new regiment. I'll need to investigate this further to determine the true regimental enmity."
Crossing to the cabinet, he pours himself a modest drink into a fine pewter goblet before resuming his pacing.  "This should narrow my search significantly, and also allow me to concentrate my personal attention on the men of these regiments.  I have no doubt that the culprits shall be found forthwith.  Which will then leave me with the distasteful task of arresting certain individuals.  Such a pity, and truly a waste.  Yet the doing is their own, and so are the consequences."
Draining the remaining wine from the goblet, Alain again sits at his desk and hastily writes a few notes before calling for his servant.  "Bertram, I need to look impressive when I go to meet with the men of a few regiments.  See to it that my best uniform is cleaned and pressed.  And don't forget to have my insignia as CoPS added as well.  This shall be dirty work, but no need to look the part."  This last with a wry smile.
"With all due haste, Sir!" Bertram replies with a slight bow as he hurriedly departs.
Straightening up his desk, Alain says quietly "May God and Le Roi have mercy on their souls."
