Lt.General le Comte Alain de Mylcandonai, His Majesty's Adjutant General, to
Brigadiers d'Wich and d'Aramagnac, Greetings!

Gentlemen,

The Command of the Cavalry Division over the forthcoming campaign will be
held by me personally. Having had the honour of appointing both of you
gentlemen to your current commands, not to mention having previously
commanded the Dragoon Guards and Horse Guards Brigade with some little
success, my style of command will be familiar you. I expect 110% performance
from all the men under my command since I know that they are capable of
providing it.

Thanks to the sudden army reorganisation ordered by the Minister of State a
few days ago it is not clear at present who the Commander of the Third Army
will be. I am told that the Field Marshal is receiving interference from a
non-military source regarding his preferred candidates. I, along with the
other Division Commanders, have received rigorous briefings regarding the
military situation and options open for _all_ divisions, however, so that
when we do have a commanding general to issue orders for the army I will be
in a position to execute them adequately. I am confident that you will have
no cause to regret my appointment.

One final point. You will no doubt be aware of the rumours that this
unprecedentedly tardy army reorganisation is due to some foreign plot to
cause confusion within the armies themselves. I discount these on the
grounds that the Minister's...lack of comfort regarding military matters,
shall we say, is so well known that it is the obvious reason for the
predicament in which we find ourselves. Should the equally persistant
rumours of a planned cover-up and shifting of the blame onto an innocent
party bear fruit, of course, along with the rest of Paris I will be
compelled to change my views on this. In the meantime it is the duty of us
all to calm whatever fears the men under our command have regarding this
matter. I am well aware of the detrimental effects which such sudden
changes and insidious rumours can have on the morale of even the best
fighting force.

Lt.General de Mylcandonai,
His Majesty's Adjutant-General
