At the DG Bivouac

"You wanted to see me, Sir?"

"Ah, come in Coward. Congratulations upon the two mentions."

"Thank you, Sir. You weren't too far behind yourself."

"Don't have the same incentive to clear my name as you do, I suppose. Have
you seen the latest despatches from Paris? There is one item which could be
of considerable interest to us."

"And what might that be, Sir?"

"With de l'Aubergine taking command of the Guards Brigade, the Ministry of
Justice post is up for grabs at last!"

"But Senior has already given me a government position in return for
agreeing to testiy at the 'treason' trial."

"I know, but this one would be so much better for both of us. With me as
Minister of Finance and you as Minister of Justice we could declare war on
financial waste - and make sure that the monies saved ended up in our own
pockets!"

"But Sir! Wouldn't that be classed as Treason?"

"Only if someone found out, Coward. I reckon we could feather our nests to
the tune of 2,500 crowns each per month without attracting any undue
attention."

"Did you approach de l'Aubergine with a similar proposal?"

"I did, but he's as rich as Croesus anyway and wasn't interested."

"Mmmm...such large amounts of cash would certainly come in handy..."
