Dear Axel,
I am astounded at your blatant treasonous statements in your
letter to my Brother. Perhaps it is too much time spent with the
Cardinal (who being a direct representative of God, tends to overlook
the King on occasion), however I assure you that the King is very much
responsible for everything in the Political and Military life of France.
It is my understanding (as a full time General), that the
King appoints the Minister of State to determine how much resources
that France can commit to any level of Military action, however he
appoints the Minister of War to determine how to use that level of
force.
I could understand some level of confusion if the Field
Marshall and the Minister of War were not in agreement over something.
However the Minister of State has no responsibility in the management
of the Military (as is evidenced by not making any military
appointments),
and I believe that it was Duc Jean, whose petulance at not being obeyed
when issuing an illegal order, is the cause for any "division of France"
Furthermore the battle results from this campaign clearly
proves that Marquis Alain was correct in his assessment of how
things should be handled. I don't recall a better set of campaign
results.
If you want to provide a divided image to the World, and
indeed the Military the best thing would be to support the prosecution
in the trial to convict a General for the legal exercising of his
duties which made direct, tangible benefits to the Soldiers of France.
(if we can call it a trial when the judge and the chief witness for
the prosecution are the same).
