Marquis Chabot,
As you have heard our main objective for this year is to drive the Spanish
out of the Netherlands. In order for this to work we will need the support of
the Duch and the English. I would like you to invesigate the possibilities to
get this support.
The support of the Duch should not be a major problem, since they will get
some of the land and will get a powerful ally in France. The English, given our
long history of hostilities, are more difficult. I believe the main arguments
must be that we would both be better off if we cooperated, and that both of us
would gain more by focusing our efforts on the Spanish, since Spain is England's
main competitor on the seas and in the colonies, and our main competitor on the
continent.
This will be one of the main points at the agenda for the first government
meeting.
