Cher Papa, Maman, &c. I have arrived at last in the Big City! It is a wonderous place - bustling with every manner of person. There are an abundance of churches - maman would be very impressed - and the cuisine is incredible, although the seafood leaves something to be desired. Within days of arriving, I was approached by the private secretary of a Duc. Quite incredibly, he explained that His Grace was willing to make a loan of a grand sum of monies, for purely philanthropic reasons! So it is that I have been able to afford board and lodgings within Paris, and hope to make my name amongst the high and mighty of the Capital. The same nobleman is to be married to the Princess, and I was hoping to give him a gift by way of thanks. Perhaps you could send some barrels of the finest pickled herring - I fear that fresh fish would not survive the trip at this time of year. A short time after this fortuitous meeting I was approached by another nobleman. While I am not at liberty to divulge what transpired, suffice to say that recent days have been full of such intrigue as I could never have imagined in Beauvoir! To think that all this could have happened in so short an amount of time! I feel certain that I shall succeed in France, and hope that you can visit before long. Ton Fils, Guillaume
