Sir, I was devastated to hear that my second son passed from this life in July in the service of the Crown. I do hope he did not disgrace the family name & I pray that his death was not in vain. My wife has taken to bed on hearing the news and the brown paper & vinegar wraps have failed to lift her spirits as it would a mare. Anyway I gather things did not go well in July ....
