Maman appreciated the kind letter you penned describing his headlong charge into the enemies ranks with his beloved E Troop He was the older Brother I never had. My life has been a long struggle ,as I was born out of wedlock, although I have excelled at my letters and have always had a healthy interest in the Military. So much so that in school I was the acknowledged leader of the Junior officer Corps. So, spurred on by his gallantry and my own ambition to amount to something important I would like to apply to join the Grand Duke Max Dragoons as a Private. I am prepared to work hard and look after the mounts as and when required. Please find it within yourself to accept my application and I can then join my good friend Private Standin d'Puddle.
