To: Brevet Lt General Marquis Quincy de Cooper, Heavy Brigadier From: Jean-Paul Georges Ringeau
I have recently arrived in Paris, and noted with some interest your offer of assistance in joining the ALC. The ALC is actually first on my list of regiments to which I wish to apply. However, I would decline your offer, not because of any disrespect, but because it would be needed much more by some other worthy gentleman; you see, my mother was once in the employ of a prosperous nobleman in my district, and out of gratitude for her devoted service he has taken an interest in my career, and has supplied me with an allowance sufficient for my equippage.
However, I would not be averse if you were to give a word to Brevet Brig General Comte de Boer, the commander of the Cuirassiers in whose hands the fate of my application lies. Although generous financially, my patron is much more circumspect where his name is concerned, and I cannot rely on him to pull strings on my behalf, and I estimate my application has equal chance of being accepted or rejected.
Whether or not you can provide the assistance I ask, I thank you for your most generous offer.
Jean-Paul Georges Ringeau [X7]
