The Secretary General vociferously lashed out against the acts of violence and displacement suffered by Iraqi Christians, describing the acts as unprecedented crimes in the history of the country. He urged the Iraqi authorities to put an end to these acts and make sure their perpetrators are duly brought to justice and end the suffering of Christians as well as provide for their protection, ensure their safety and security, and preserve their rights and dignity. Prof. Ihsanoglu stressed the importance of respecting the rights of Christians in Iraq and the rights of the adepts of other religions to live in peace in their homeland. He also expressed his sympathy and sincere solidarity with the Christians of Iraq, extending his heart-felt condolences to the families of the victims who perished as a result of these acts. He expressed his hope that the displaced Christians return rapidly to their homes in an atmosphere of security, tranquility and stability.
