Hi,

Now that the Sprint is over and that we all went back home (or are on our way),
I thought it would be good to post a quick summary of the work done this week.

On my side, as planned, I focused on the missions this week.

1. I reviewed the list of ideas for missions, to classify the missions in
different "departments", as discussed recently. See
http://farsides.com/wiki/Missions_Ideas

2. I've also spent some time looking at existing communities that we could
try to interact with, to start getting some feedback from players. I've tried
to note a few ideas of missions for each community - not necessarily missions
that ties into the current background we have been discussing, but more
something related to an existing interest of those communities. This will need
more work, but a first list can be found there:
http://farsides.com/wiki/Missions_Ideas#Ideas_to_engage_with_existing_communities

3. I've also implemented two missions: one asking
<http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~xavier-antoviaque/hackit/alpha2.3/annotate/head%3A/classes/missions/intelligence_find_clue_gaia.php>
  players to find clues about Gaia, and another one asking
<http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~xavier-antoviaque/hackit/alpha2.3/annotate/head%3A/classes/missions/fieldops_hide_code.php>
  a player to hide a code in the "real world" and pointing to its location on a
map to allow another one to retrieve it (which would be another mission). If
you look at the code, you'll see that it relies on changes in the code (the
transition to OO code, and new hooks to add to the mission system). I will thus
need to rework it once Vlad has completed its current work and the new hooks
have been added.

4. Last but not least, I've worked on the mission engine documentation.
I've started a mission
<http://farsides.com/wiki/Mission_system_-_Developer_Tutorial>  scripter
tutorial and an API reference <http://farsides.com/wiki/Mission_system_-_API>
document. It's still work in progress (like the missions, I'll have to give it
another look once the changes have been implemented), but it should already be
a good starting point.

Comments on all of this are most welcomed - especially about the API reference
Vlad. Could you have a look at it and let me know how much work it would
represent to implement those changes? You can leave the section about the data
objects on the side, as I've started an implementation of those (cf the first
new mission above) - we can see how we can integrate those with the rest of the
data objects once you've completed the current work.

Cheers,
Xavier.

[David] Thx Xav.

The organization of the missions ideas looks good to me, thx !

I’ll look at the scripter tutorial and the API a bit later when I take the time
and I’ll tell you if I can understand it, it’ll be a good test ;)

On my side – some tasks are still in process, I was a bit optimistic regarding
the amount of work :

*       Business :

* Follow-up with Magalie on the Articles of Association and start process
for creation of company -> in process - I need to get back to Magalie on that
* A few potential investors/organizations to contact for meetings in
october/november -> in process, a few contacts identified already
* Create a cost control tool for a better follow-up of actual and
forecast costs -> Done (see financials on repository)
* Update the power point document that presents FarSides -> Deb, can you
please send the current draft even it’s still in process on your side ? I’ve
got a meeting on Monday so I’d like to take a little time to fine tune the
content. At the same time, it will be interesting I think to give you feedback
on an intermediary version before you finish your part.
* translate BP and financials for french administration -> Not done – we
need it for next Tuesday (meeting with paris chamber of commerce) so I need to
do it soon…
* A few things to add on the BP (SWOT, improved forecast expenses) -> in
process (next week)
* draw a plan for subsidies / tax credit in france -> Information
gathered on FAJV (public funding for video games), I think it’s our best shot
for the first try – to be completed once the company is incorporated
* Start to meet some contacts in Montreal -> Done - a few meetings took
place, debrief was done on the ml

*       HR :

*       coder recruitment :

* prepare a job desc -> done – to be reviewed by Xav
* send the job desc to contacts in India (+ <span />post on recruitment
web sites) -> pending
* Call Harold to explain after provider coder job desc (and discuss
educations games for India) -> pending

* recurring contractors process (job desc, objectives, start reviews) ->
in process (next week)

*       Production :

* improve task tracker and start integrating the Scrum process -> in
process, I hope to have a first process by the end of the month

*       Game content :

* Connect an art director with Deb to review Card Stories and brainstorm
on Hackit -> Done
* Rework the positioning of hackit ("game that poses as an ecology
serious game...")  -> Done

Thx,

D
