Alex,

After discussing with Xav and thinking about it I'd like to discuss a change of plans for the introductory mission. Given that we have little time and that I'd like to keep things very simple for the introduction, I wish to leave on the side for now the idea of being mistaken for someone else. It's still an idea that I really like, but I prefer to keep it as a second step in the game. Let's take the more simple approach of the player being spotted and recruited and then an introductory mission which is close to the one you're currently developing but recruitment oriented.

If we follow this lead, the process could be the following :
The player arrives on the web site of the organization.
Then an animation pops up with the earth and localization of the player, mentioning something like 'activating recruitment protocol'.

Then the player is sent to the desktop, the chat is open and the introduction mission starts.

For the mission itself, we can keep the idea of the current attack and the player who needs to help. It just needs to start with something mentioning that the player has been spotted as a possible recruit for the special activities of the organization. Then, very simple, very tutorial oriented. And ending by telling the player that he can start working on all other missions available in the mission menu. Less rich of possibilities than the double agent idea, but simpler to implement ans simpler for the first contact of player with the game.

Can I grab you on the chat or on skype today so we can discuss this quickly and work on a first draft ?

Thx
D

Hi friends, quiet here on the farsides front today!

Indeed ! The new year's eve truce maybe :)

You are a visitor to the non-profit organisation website (working name:
unitedecosystems.com <http://unitedecosystems.com>) .

After just a few seconds, perhaps when you click on a link such as
“About the Founder”, a new page loads, but the loading is interrupted
by a page such as “Oops! Google Chrome could not find
abouthefounder.com <http://abouthefounder.com>” for about a second,
and you arrive on a blank page, except for a strange logo. Rapidly, a
chat box appears and someone starts writing to you:

I like the idea of the loading being interrupted and the Ooops message.
I think it should be triggered automatically though and not wait for a
click else how do you see that we can make sure the player actually
clicks ? Maybe a frame within the page that loads a picture or something
and that gives the ooops message after a few seconds.
Then after the oops message I think we could have the animation with the
earth and the localization look that was mentioned on the ml some time
ago, and then boom we arrive on the desktop + chat. You think it would
work ?

In the chat box:

Frosty, I’m glad you were able to make it back here! We’re under attack
. Hackers...unknown. BUT they’re in Asia. We know that their malicious
websites and email addresses contain the word “chocolate”. We know that
their fake homepage talks about a famous place. Could be a famous
tourist site. Not sure. We need to what this website is very quickly.
Our servers can go offline anytime soon. Any idea? Find what the
website is about, what is that tourist site? Just write the location
here. I’ll run your key words through my program. I’ll tell you if
they match. Do it now!

Ok let's play :) Google gives me Chocolate Hills in Philippines. Correct
? But they are different web sites that talk about it, so I don't know
which one it would be.

While we discuss this part, can you already draft the end of the mission
? So we quickly have a first draft we can integrate and test.

Regarding your mission, given that we did not exactly follow the
original three steps process (my fault, because we're on the clock), and
that some part of the work has already been done, I could release half
of the payment as of now. Xav is that ok for you ?

And Alex one last thing. If you have a little spare time this week,
could you have a look at the existing missions on hackit.cx and playtest
them ? I would be very interested to have some feedback and maybe also
if you could spot the obvious mistakes in english writing :) Thanks in
advance and let me know if you experience issues in running the missions
(there are still bugs) we can look at them together.
