Hi,
Since the Mozilla submission, Xav and I have been quiet on the mailing
list front, as you probably have noticed. There was a need to rest a
little, but also an opportunity to take the time to better define our
respective roles, before we move on to the next step of the project.
This next step will be on a larger scale than the previous one so there
was a need to come up with a more efficient role definition.
Here is the way it's going to be done :
1) Xav will take the A (i.e. the responsability, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Responsibility_assignment_matrix) on all
aspects related to the production of the Humanity Project and Card Stories.
On my side, I will still remain an active contributor on the project. As
well as a member of the project committee, along with Xav (this is at
the project level), and co-validating with him the expenses (this is at
the studio level).
2) On my side, regarding the humanity project, I will take the A on all
the business side of the games and the Farsides studio.
3) Another change is that the Farsides studio is going to be a subsidy
(100%) of a holding.
I will explain why it will be interesting to do that.
- There are some opportunities for other video game ventures (co-dev,
first or third party dev, etc) that would benefit from what we're
currently learning with Farsides. But there might be some opportunities
that for some reason (such as the requirements of a third party for
instance) will not be compatible with the 100% open model followed by
Farsides. Xav and I want to use these opportunities, because they can
generate short term revenues that could contribute funding Farsides and
HPO, but we don't want to blur the Farsides 100% open model, so these
ventures should happen under the holding but outside of the Farsides
subsidy.
- The investors will fund the holding. Decided at the holding level,
part of the funds will be dedicated to Farsides subsidy (currently
HPO/Card Stories), and the rest will be dedicated to these other video
game ventures.
- I will take the A on the development of these other ventures.
I think this new organization will be more efficient, and it will also
be easier for everyone here to understand more easily the respective
scope of Xav and I.
