Hi,

Forwarding an interesting reply from the founder of JobScore about
telecommuters recruitment. Nothing Earth-shaking, but it's a good
overview of the situation.

If you have ideas on how to tackle this issue, I'd be happy to hear
them : )

Xavier.

Hi Xavier.

Thanks for you thoughtful question. What you are doing is very
progressive.

1. I understand and appreciate your problem. Unfortunately, most
job boards really don’t. We require that you enter a location value for
all jobs in JobScore because the job boards we partner with / syndicate
to require them… i.e. we wouldn’t be able to provide the benefit if
one-click job syndication and tracking if we didn’t.

2. This is largely due to a few things, including:

a. Almost all people work onsite, and location is extremely
important to most job searches

b. Most large job boards have many, many jobs and they use
location as a filtering criteria – i.e. it’s easier for people to use
job board if the board filters to only show local jobs.

c. Many leading boards require location so that you have to
purchase more postings. i.e. – you’ll hire someone in New York or LA?
Great – buy two postings.

3. So, that said, what’s the deal? Here’s what our customers who
want to hire someone who will “work anywhere” do:

a. They list the location of their “headquarters” on all job
descriptions. Sometimes this is the address of the founder’s home J

b. They very prominently display the fact that this is a “work
from home” and/or “telecommute” opportunity on the job description. The
good news is that job descriptions are searchable, and people looking
for this kind of work often use specific keywords to find these
opportunities.

c. They sometimes end up posting the job in multiple locations
where there is a high concentration of talent – for instance, if you are
looking for game industry talent, you might want to post in southern
California and the bay area as well as a few other spots. In this case,
you’ll need to enter the job more than once in JobScore, or edit it and
re-post it a few times (if you move forward with us, I’ll be happy to
walk you through this)

d. In a few instances they choose not to post through jobscore for
boards that offer an option for telecommute jobs (which we currently
don’t support)

4. This “location independent” thing tends to work better for
hiring contractors, and services like www.elance.com, www.odesk.com and
others are specifically designed for you to find and hire contract
workers “anywhere”

I hope this answers your questions and happy hiring,

dan

Hi Dan,

I'm one of the founders of Farsides, a new video game studio. We are
looking to fill two positions, a game writer and a game designer, so I'm
currently looking at the tools that could ease my tasks.

I use the opportunity to ask you a question that I couldn't answer
through the online video or the demo. Because our studio is based on the
Open Source model, we work using a "virtual office", meaning that
everyone works remotely, spread across the world. The impact on
recruitment is that we are able to recruit from any country, as long as
the person is willing to work remotely. How do you handle job postings
in such cases? Is there a way to select multiple locations where to post
the job offer, or even a "worldwide posting" offer?

Thanks,
Xavier.

Hi,

There is a mis-match between the company name, URL and email on your
sign up.

Could you please let us know what company you represent and what
position you are trying to fill before we click you through to use
jobscore?

Thanks,

dan
