+1. Too many online games come with the multiplayer experience as an afterthought. I think for us the risk is limited though, since the concept itself was thought as a multiplayer game. But definitely something to keep in mind yup. > But there might be a way to bypass this by using our realistic approach : If > the player is in a realistic environment (his browser, and the interface > could reinforce this feeling) and interacts in the game with NPCs that seem > to be human, there is a possibility there for strong immersion (in a > realistic world) that uses the blurring with reality and the doubts related > to whom I'm talking to in the game. Yes, I think that's an excellent point. If the entity you are talking to is actually a human, then it becomes easier to relate to it. It comes with a few issues too, though - especially, it's a lot harder to make it look "real". A real human interaction is one of the hardest things to fake... But here, we could simply take the opposite approach, as previously discussed: instead of trying to make the player believe he's talking to a human, we could use a suspension of disbelief at first (it's obvious that he is talking to a NPC), but then add interaction with a human impersonating a NPC later on. Then he will always wonder if he's talking to a human or a NPC... > - Following this, Nicolas then recommends a context that is believable. Yup, it's a good lead. The issue with giving a date for the end of the world is, well, that usually the end of the world doesn't happen at the announced date. ;p But agreed, that relates well to what has been discussed previously, it's good food for thoughts.
