Barcamps have become pretty popular events here in Thailand, in case some of
you are interested, there are camps more focused on semantic technologies
starting to happen in Europe called Vocamps

If some barcampers in Thailand are interested to learn more, we may have a
chance to set up an informal thing during the first or second week of
December in Bangkok, when some friends and colleagues from the semantic web
community will be visiting for a conference (ASWC, one of those expensive,
registration only events).

Personally I think it would be important to hook as many of these semantic
heads as possible, who will be in town and flying a very long way - for
their formal, all expenses paid, five star, beind the wall event - to meet
the informal, 'open to all' IT community which is developing as part of
Barcamp

I think we should try to twist their arms and give us a mini digest free for
all, or somethin

I would be happy to ask if any of these illustrious visitors, some of who I
have already met in person, if they would be interested to volunteer giving
a crash presentation about the gist of Vocamps and meet barcampers Thailand
for informal showcase of what they do, and possible future synergy . Even
if its just a handful of people.

You never know, one day we may have a Vocamp in Thailand too....

After a successful first VoCamp in September in Oxford, the second VoCamp
[1] will be hosted at DERI Galway in Ireland in little more than a month
from now, on 25th-26th November.

What are VoCamps? - "VoCamp is a series of informal events where people can
spend some dedicated time creating lightweight vocabularies/ontologies for
the Semantic Web/Web of Data. The emphasis of the events is not on creating
the perfect ontology in a particular domain, but on creating vocabs that are
good enough for people to start using for publishing data on the Web. The
intention is to follow a 'paper first, laptops second' format, where the
modelling is done initially on paper and only later committed to code. The
VoCamp idea is heavily influenced by BarCamp, although the VoCamp should
only have presentations where strictly necessary." [2]

Just like the first VoCamp, the event will be very loosely organised - we
will provide the facilities, coffee and cookies, you bring ideas and
enthusiasm to discuss, design and develop vocabularies and ontologies for
the Semantic Web. Some people will surely continue the work they have
started at VoCamp Oxford, but everyone is invited to join and come with new
ideas as well!

VoCamp is a free event - there is no workshop fee in order to attend.
However, you will have to cover your own expenses, i.e. travel,
accommodation and food. Also, space is limited, so we are restricting the
number of attendees to 30 - if you want to come, make sure to put your name
on the list in the VoCamp wiki [3] and don't forget to put down some topics
you'd like to work on!
