If you have basically unlimited funds, then go for latest technology,
so you can be sure you will be able to use the hardware for the next
10 or more years without need to change or upgrade... In such a case,
I would recommend a small LTO-5 or LTO-6 library.

If you are more looking for a cost-efficient but still efficient and
reliable solution, I reommend to go back two, maybe even three
hardware generations. Instead of LTO-5 or LTO-6, you could start with
LTO-3 or LTO-4. Go for SAS interface instead of SCSI, and don't
hesitate to start with a used device. If you look around, you can
find small LTO-4 autoloaders (with one drive) in cood condition for
less than $ 800 or so.

This should get you going for the next years, and even if you have to
upgrade the hardware later when the company grows faster than expected
you will still be able to read the media.

Also, LTO-4 (and even LTO-3) is not so old yet that you have to fear
that the supply for tapes would dry out any time soon...

Best regards,

Wolfgang Denk
