About full job problem, I think I've the same problem, but I'm having problems
with tape drive and I've not done tests.

About compression: You need better speed or better compression?, that's the
question, because gzip is much slower than hardware but hardware have less
compression ratio.
For example: before some tests i've finally decided to use gzip compression
because I don't have much space on tapes, and full jobs are distributed over a
month.
My backups uses GZIP4 (best on speed/compression for me), spooling and runs 3
jobs at same time, then while is despooling a job other two jobs still running.

Greetings!!
