Hm, ok. You definitely should use data spooling, otherwise you will get in trouble with shoe-shining nearly for sure because you need a *constant* (high) data rate which most clients are not able to deliever. Without spooling a backup job will occupy the tape drive until it is finished so you might get a idea of the data rate if the FD is faster than your tape with the calculation of time without attribute insert to database and the amount of data backed up. But you need at least attribute spooling otherwise... uhh, no. Don't do this with tape backups.
